Thursday Evening Talk: Climate Change, Fire, and Indigenous Science

November 19, 2020
6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Last summer, the Holiday Farm Fire burned more than 170,000 acres and destroyed hundreds of homes across Oregon’s McKenzie River community—lending new urgency to local concerns about fire danger, forest management, and the role of climate change. Join us for a discussion of these concerns and explore how the revitalization of Indigenous fire science could help transform our relationship with wildfire.

Panelists:
Kari Marie Norgaard, University of Oregon professor of sociology and environmental studies

Ryan Reed, Karuk Spring Salmon Ceremonial Priest, Hoopa Tribal member and Yurok descendant, executive co-director for Youth Movement

Joe Scott, Siletz Tribal member, fire practitioner, Siletz Tribal Culture and Language Bearer, and Curriculum Director for the Traditional Ecological Inquiry Program.
